What does “gang-related” mean in California criminal law?

“gang-related” means that the minor was an active participant in a criminal street gang, as specified in subdivision (a) of Section 186.22 of the Penal Code, or committed an offense for the benefit of, or at the direction of, a criminal street gang, as specified in subdivision (b) or (d) of Section 186.22 of the Penal Code. (Cal. Welf. & Inst. Code § 727.7)
