What does “Remote technology” mean in California criminal law?

“Remote technology” means technology that provides for the two-way transmission of video and audio signals except that audio signals alone may be permitted where specifically authorized by subdivision (k) of Section 224.2. (Cal. Welf. & Inst. Code § 679.5)
