In Iowa criminal law, “Genetic services” is a term defined by statute rather than by its everyday meaning. Its statutory definition — quoted verbatim below — controls how the term is applied throughout the Iowa criminal code.

What does “Genetic services” mean in Iowa criminal law?

“Genetic services” means the same as defined in 29 U.S.C. §1191b(d)(8). e. “Genetic testing” means the same as genetic test as defined in 29 U.S.C. §1191b(d)(7). “Genetic testing” does not mean routine physical measurement, a routine chemical, blood, or urine analysis, a biopsy, an autopsy, or clinical specimen obtained solely for the purpose of conducting an immediate clinical or diagnostic test to detect an existing disease, illness, impairment, or disorder, or a test for drugs or for human immunodeficiency virus infections. f. “Health insurance” means a contract, policy, or plan providing f (Iowa Code § 729.6)
