What does “Merchant” mean in Iowa criminal law?

“Merchant” means an owner or operator of a retail mercantile establishment or an agent, employee, lessee, consignee, officer, director, franchisee, or independent contractor of such owner or operator. (Iowa Code § 715A.10)
