17-A M.R.S. § 513Primary source, current through the First Special Session of the 132nd Maine Legislature (current through October 1, 2025)

1. A person is guilty of maintaining an unprotected well if, being the owner or occupier of land on which there is a well, he knowingly fails to enclose the well with a substantial fence or other substantial enclosing barrier or to protect it by a substantial covering which is securely fastened. 2. Maintaining an unprotected well is a Class E crime.
