What does “Narcotic drug” mean in Utah criminal law?
"Narcotic drug" means any of the following, whether produced directly or indirectly by extraction from substances of vegetable origin, or independently by means of chemical synthesis, or by a combination of extraction and chemical synthesis: (1)(y)(i) opium, coca leaves, and opiates; (1)(y)(ii) a compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, or preparation of opium, coca leaves, or opiates; (1)(y)(iii) opium poppy and poppy straw; or (1)(y)(iv) a substance, and any compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, or preparation of the substance, which is chemically identical with any of the substances refe (Utah Code Ann. § 58-37-101)
